If you have questions about what the Stanley numbers are, you can
look the planes up on Blood&Gore:

https://supertool.com/stanleybg/stan0.htm

Sometimes, emails to/from me are vectored to some cyber black
hole, never reaching their destination. I answer all emails, so if
you haven't heard from me, your/my email is likely having high tea
in said black hole, never to be heard from, so please try again.

If there is anything in particular that you're after, do ping me
as there is a lot of stuff here that isn't on the list; the list
just represents a snapshot of the previous month's haul with none
of the stuff having appeared on a previous list. I like to keep
things fresh here.

Please email me prior to sending money so that you can be sure
the item is still up for grabs. Also, prices do not include shipping,
which is the amount that it takes to go from me to you via the US
Post Office.

This list goes out to many people, normally on the first Monday
of the month (unless otherwise noted above). So, if you see something
you want, it's the quickest finger on the trigger that wins the duel.

Some folks become upset that they miss out on a tool. I wish I had
lots of this stuff many times over so I can satisfy the demand, but
that is normally not the case. Some of it does have duplicates here,
and if so, I will state that in my reply to you.

Also, due to the nature of selling over the wires, tools are sold
on a first come, first serve basis. The first person to say "I'll
take it", gets it. I have to operate this way as some will take a
few days to get back to me with their interest in a particular item,
and it's unfair to keep others waiting who are willing to buy the
item immediately.

I reserve the right to correct typographical errors after the list
goes out. I rarely make them, but when I do they can be major ones.

If you're the kind of person who puts a straightedge to the sole of
a #40, to check it for flatness, or who tosses a plane on a scale to
weight it against what it states in the Stanley catalogs, you'll need
to take your business elsewhere. I'll wish you luck finding perfection
in something that was never made, nor intended to be, perfect. You guys
know who you are, and it's best for both of us that our paths not cross.

Lastly, and I don't like to mention this, but if you tell me that
money is on the way for something you want, and you never make good
on it, we won't be doing business in the future. It's unfair, actually
downright discourteous, to others who want the same thing, and I tell
them it's sold. Pull this on me, and you're exorcised from the list.
Sorry, but I don't tolerate this behavior well at all.

Don't forget the cool new tools that I'm making - a jazzy layout
knife being used by professionals (made the cover of Feb.1998 FWW!),
a detachable block plane handle designed to fit your standard pitch
block planes, a killer Robinson's Improved Patent sliding bevel, a
tilting jaw for your Emmert's vise, and the finest bench plane in
production today, the Bed Rock #601. You can see it all at:

Remember, you don't have to be a connoisseur (did I spell that
correctly) to shop here. You can be a wirehead, a metalhead, a zipper-
head, a propellerhead, a deadhead, a cokehead, or even a knuckle
dragging oaf, just like me, to shop here, as long as your dinero is
green.

Thanks for shopping, and remember that no letters or words were
injured when writing this list...

FEATURED TOOL OF THE MONTH
******** **** ** *** *****

FT1 A bit disheveled after spending all day assembling soccer
nets at his school, the lad is holding a very tidy and
very rare Duval's Patent adjustable dado plane; designed
to do the work of many dado planes with a single one that
can be set to different widths by turning the six thumb
screws to move the two halves closer/nearer to each other,
the sound concept never proved practical as the plane
failed to sell well; manufactured by the shadowy Hartford
Plane Co., no information has surfaced about this firm;
patented November 23, 1869, Duval's tool experiment was
reflected in his patent document which is signed by an
"X" for his name; roughly ten examples have surfaced,
each with a different number stamped in the heel as a
possible serial number, this one is 1118, there's no way
he made over 1000 of the things, it's probable he started
numbering them at 1100; in fine shape, one of the nicest
in existence, it was lightly cleaned; owner mark of H.S.
Crocheron, there was a man by that name who ran a
carpenter's shop at 73 Christopher St. in New York, he
is recorded as having a fire there June 6, 1888:

quarter of the 18th century; a very pleasing profile, the
stop's right side has been shaved a bit, that it no way
hinders its use; owner mark, it'll really jazz up whatever
you use it on giving the edge more pop than the common
thumbnail:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t10.jpg $135.00
WP6 Clean fully boxed sash fillister by Greenslade; the entire
sold is boxwood dovetailed onto the beech stock, the fence
has brass bushing for the screws that attach the arms;
barely used, lightly cleaned, the nicker iron and skewed
iron suit it well for cutting rabbets that can't 'walk off'
the edge of the work; a lot of plane for the money:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t12.jpg
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t12a.jpg $135.00
WP7 Pair of #1 hollow and round planes; the narrowest of the
standard full set, they are as found, and show little signs
of use; maker mark of W.Hughes, the left sides show the
inevitable (due to the stock's thinness) breakage adjacent
to the irons, they are still 100% functional; an uncommon
size for the finest work; top left:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t14.jpg $95.00
WP8 Larger match plane, W.Brooks Patent, with both functions
built into a single stock; opposing totes give this one a
unique look in the wooden plane world, it's obvious where
Stanley drew its inspiration for the later #148 series of
metallic match planes; for 3/4" to 1" thick stock, it
centers the groove on 7/8" thick stock; as found, very well
made, steel plated fences for longer wear and accuracy, 15"
long, a no harm repair at the end where the wood forms the
two fences; a rugged worker and very uncommon; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t16.jpg $135.00
WP9 Miniature smoothing plane made what looks to be spalted
boxwood; 3 7/8" long, it has a dark and light smokey pattern
to the wood; 7/8" wide iron, very well made, no damage about
the wedge, a knot popped free from the back of the mouth, the
plane is still 100% usable; left:

https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t17a.jpg
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t17b.jpg $85.00
WP10 Side rounds by Griffiths/Norwich; a clean worker pair that
saw limited use, no alteration, owner mark, wedge finials
differ due to batch differences (stocks and finials were
made in large batches and later used); bottom left:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t21.jpg $225.00
WP11 Adjustable sash by J.&G.Gibson/Albany; cuts the common
square ovolo, that portion of the plane is fully boxed,
the rabbet is boxed at the shoulder; inlay brass diamond
shape escutcheons surround the adjusting screws, the plane
saw careful use and has loads more left in it to make the
most common profile for sashwork; a portion of an old
boxwood rule is tacked onto the right side of the stock
at the toe, that can be left or removed; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t29.jpg
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t29a.jpg $115.00
WP12 Pair of worker snipe bills by previous maker; showing the
expected wear, one plane has screw holes, the boxing on
that has some cracks and a bit of a warp, but is still
usable; a bargain worker pair; top two:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t30.jpg $115.00
WP13 1/4" dado by previous maker; as found, with some rust on
the irons, stock is true, which is not easy to find for
such a narrow plane; will make a fine worker; middle:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t30.jpg $85.00
WP14 Pair of side rabbets by the previous maker; dry surface,
free of alteration, will make sound workers; bottom two:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t30.jpg $120.00

Duncan Phyfe's toolchest was stocked with Spencer planes;
in nicer than usual shape and with no owner mark; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t34.jpg $45.00
WP16 Nice and ready to use toted screw arm plough plane; as nice
as they come, this one is manufactured but its maker didn't
stamp his name; boxwood arms and nuts, this one is as close
to new condition as a ca.1875 plane can be; no iron, I'll
put a decent one in it, if you're after a solid worker, this
is it:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t35.jpg
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t35a.jpg $190.00
WP17 1/2" bead; fully boxed sole, by J.Kellogg, used once or

found, free of alteration, great size for cabinetwork, with
owner mark:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t42.jpg $95.00
WP21 Pair of 1/4" match planes; a difficult size to find, the
groove is centered on 1/4" thick stock, it's perfect for
finer cabinetwork; no maker's mark, manufactured, lightly
waxed, with some staining; bottom left two:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t43.jpg $115.00
WP22 Edge rounding plane by Routledge; used to knock off the
sharp edge of a table top, chest, etc., the diameter is
roughly 3/8"; barely used, with most of the original
finish, owner mark, the top of the finial was lopped off
so its user could drive the wedge easier; an uncommon size
for this profile; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t56.jpg
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t56a.jpg $85.00
WP23 Clean moving fillister by J.W.Mackenzie with the greyhound
mark; fully boxed shoulder, boxwood wedge to secure the
nicker in place, screwed brass stop, notched fence for easy
removal of the iron, dry original finish, free of modifi-
cation, it's in much nicer than usual shape; capable of

use plane that all shops should own; middle:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t56.jpg $175.00
WP24 3/8" square ovolo by Collier of Brixton; little used, in
fine worker shape, minor roughness along stop's edge, a
good size for cabinetwork; I know a Collier, but he's not
from Brixton, I don't think you'd ever find him dining on
curried goat or fried plantains there; come to think of
it, I don't believe he'd eat that meal anywhere; bottom:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t56.jpg
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t56b.jpg $65.00
WP25 Exotic wood coffin smoother; dense stock is made from a
wood I can't identify, the wedge looks to be Indian rose-
wood; very good mass, no damage about the wedge, 2 1/2"
double iron by Marples, it fits tightly in the stock;
a few minor chips on the bed, those have no bearing on
its use; a solid plane begging to be put back to work;
top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t60.jpg $125.00
WP26 28" wooden jointer by Ohio Tool Co., a much nicer than
usual example that shows very minimal signs of use, the
sides of the wedge were lightly planed to allow easier
removal of that after the stock shrank (this is common
on bench planes); with strike button, all this one needs
is a honing; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t62.jpg $135.00
WP27 1 3/4" skewed rabbet by Appleton/Boston; still with old
shavings in the mouth from when last used, it shows
normal wear, but is nicer than usual; no nail holes,

WP31 M.Deter/Philad 1/2" (depth of cut) square, cove, and square;
as found, dry surface, free of alteration, uncommon profile
that can be used anywhere, owner brand, and an uncommon
maker's mark:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t90.jpg $155.00
WP32 I.Sleeper toted sash plane; cuts the common square ovolo
provile, this 18th century plane managed to survive the
ravages of time fairly well, it did lose its iron; dry
surface, owner mark, vertical grain to the tote so it
wouldn't split during use, that feature introduces short
grain to the horn, which often splits off which is the
case for this one; the following plane can be used to cope
the bars; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t91.jpg
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t91a.jpg $120.00
WP33 I.Sleeper (unsigned, but his work) sash coping plane; made
to speed up sash production, the plane copes mating sash
bars with each other as well as the bars that intersect
the frame; as found, good color, never messed with, and
an uncommon 18th century plane; bottom:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t91.jpg $125.00
WP34 18th century tonguing plane; with all the characteristics
of ca.1775 New England planemaking, it has the stylish and
uncomfortable tote, flat chamfers, round and chamfered wedge,
etc.; as found, dry surface, plated fence, it's a solid
plane; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t92.jpg
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t92a.jpg $90.00
WP35 I.Sleeper table hollow; the simple style model used to cut
one half of the drop leaf table joint, this one cuts the
round; steeply pitched for hardwoods, owner mark, never
cleaned, a nice example; bottom:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t92.jpg $135.00
WP36 #2 hollow and round pair by Routledge; narrowest size of
the standard even number half-set, they have always been
together and show the same owner marks; sound workers,
free of modification, the left sides show the unavoidable
break out due to the thinness of the stock there; bottom
left:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t98.jpg $90.00
WP37 1/8" fully boxed bead by Moseley; slipped so the stop can
be removed to allow working deeper into the stock, a feature
useful when making compound profiles with hollows and rounds;
as found, never messed with, owner mark, a solid worker;
bottom right:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t98.jpg $70.00
WP38 Skewed rule joint planes by Sandusky; barely used, with the
wider fences for better registration, these are the nicest
pair I've seen in some time, I can't recall seeing a skewed
set before; top two:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t99.jpg $290.00
WP39 V-grooving plane with rabbet throat; lignum boxing for
longer wear, it cuts a shallow groove in the face of the
work, the groove can be used as decoration, like where
matched boards meet, or for guiding rounds when making
moldings with hollows and rounds; owner made, in sound
worker shape; bottom:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t112.jpg $80.00
WP40 5/8" (depth of cut) quirk ogee and square; good proportions
the oversize square is can be left as is or worked with
smaller molding plane to make a much more interesting
profile; made by Crow, a no harm check in the boxing:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t113.jpg $110.00
WP41 Huge bollection with removable fence by W.Preston of
London; double iron, it cuts a 2 1/2" wide by 1 1/4" deep
profile with the bead portion is roughly twice the size
of the cove; removable fence allows it to work adjacent to
another profile, it's definitely original and looks to be
a custom order; owner mark, in overall fine shape, this
beast had to be a chore to use, why it wasn't made as a
toted cornice-style plane is a mystery:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t130.jpg $375.00
WP42 Skewed half-set #2-#18 hollows and rounds by Birch&Sons;
a solid worker set, free of modification, they were very
lightly sanded and then refinished; one with a replaced
wedge, the wood doesn't know that when the plane slides
over it:
https://supertool.com/forsale/aug/t134.jpg $885.00
WP43 Toted bridle plough with ebony arms and different clamping
mechanism than usual; a 100% honest and as found example,
it's just as it was when found in the wild, and hasn't
been whizzed up and sanitized for your protection as so
many have been; manufactured, there's no maker's mark, but
"WARRANTED" in a circular pattern is stamped in the toe;
owner mark, the plane has loads of character with numerous
paint splatters; brass tips are firmly attached, wedge
shows usual banging on the finial, the side screw for fixing
the depth stop is MIA; odd casting with an odder still thumb
screw secures the bulky fence along the ebony arms; chunky
tote, the return is 'grooved' to give extra bedding of the
iron; beech stock, fence, and wedge, the tip of which has
been pared a bit; brass tips are secured with the cross
boxwood splines; this may be an early Mathieson product,
it's unlike any other I've seen:
