If you have questions about what the Stanley numbers are, you can
look the planes up on Blood&Gore:

https://supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan0.htm

Sometimes, emails to/from me are vectored to some cyber black
hole, never reaching their destination. I answer all emails, so if
you haven't heard from me, your/my email is likely having high tea
in said black hole, never to be heard from, so please try again.

If there is anything in particular that you're after, do ping me
as there is a lot of stuff here that isn't on the list; the list
just represents a snapshot of the previous month's haul with none
of the stuff having appeared on a previous list. I like to keep
things fresh here.

Please email me prior to sending money so that you can be sure
the item is still up for grabs. Also, prices do not include shipping,
which is the amount that it takes to go from me to you via the US
Post Office.

This list goes out to many people, normally on the first Monday
of the month (unless otherwise noted above). So, if you see something
you want, it's the quickest finger on the trigger that wins the duel.

Some folks become upset that they miss out on a tool. I wish I had
lots of this stuff many times over so I can satisfy the demand, but
that is normally not the case. Some of it does have duplicates here,
and if so, I will state that in my reply to you.

Also, due to the nature of selling over the wires, tools are sold
on a first come, first serve basis. The first person to say "I'll
take it", gets it. I have to operate this way as some will take a
few days to get back to me with their interest in a particular item,
and it's unfair to keep others waiting who are willing to buy the
item immediately.

I reserve the right to correct typographical errors after the list
goes out. I rarely make them, but when I do they can be major ones.

If you're the kind of person who puts a straightedge to the sole of
a #40, to check it for flatness, or who tosses a plane on a scale to
weigh it against what it states in the Stanley catalogs, you'll need
to take your business elsewhere. I'll wish you luck finding perfection
in something that was never made, nor intended to be, perfect. You guys
know who you are, and it's best for both of us that our paths not cross.

Lastly, and I don't like to mention this, but if you tell me that
money is on the way for something you want, and you never make good
on it, we won't be doing business in the future. It's unfair, actually
downright discourteous, to others who want the same thing, and I tell
them it's sold. Pull this on me, and you're exorcised from the list.
Sorry, but I don't tolerate this behavior well at all.

Don't forget the cool new tools that I'm making - a jazzy layout
knife being used by professionals (made the cover of Feb.1998 FWW!),
a detachable block plane handle designed to fit your standard pitch
block planes, a killer Robinson's Improved Patent sliding bevel, a
tilting jaw for your Emmert's vise, and the finest bench plane in
production today, the Bed Rock #601. You can see it all at:

Remember, you don't have to be a connoisseur (did I spell that
correctly) to shop here. You can be a wirehead, a metalhead, a zipper-
head, a propellerhead, a deadhead, a cokehead, or even a knuckle
dragging oaf, just like me, to shop here, as long as your dinero is
green.

Thanks for shopping, and remember that no letters or words were
injured when writing this list...

FEATURED TOOL OF THE MONTH
******** **** ** *** *****

FT1 Rare Falconer coachmaker's plough plane; hatched in the
mind of Thomas Falconer, of east London, he received silver
medal from the Royal Society of Arts in 1846; his unique
plane features a flexible steel sole, similar to that
found on circular planes, which is oriented with its face
parallel with the side of the iron to allow grooving along
convex and concave edges; the short skate permitted the
same convex and concave grooving relative to the face of
the iron; designed for carriagemaking, and similar trades
that worked curved wood, its market wasn't as broad as
other trades and its complexity (and likely cost) made it
a tool that only a few wanted, it's now quite a rare
plane; with around six original planes extant, all of them
are different in enough ways to offer evidence that Falconer
never made the planes, it's probable he licensed their
manufacture to different planemakers; with unmistakable
characteristics of the other Falconer planes, this one has
a cast brass base onto which the ebonized hardwood stock
is attached; a double screw for the depth stop, it locks
firmly in position by tightening the two screws against
each other; the brass base has a provision for a nicker
iron, that parted company with the plane long ago; original
grungy surface, this plane was found in a box of junk
tools and is directly from that source via a picker; with
a replacement part that is impossible to identify as it
was done by an expert using materials from other tools of
the same era, the buyer will be informed of what part has
been restored (many sneaky tool sellers would never tell
you what's been done to the stuff they sell); a great
example worthy of any collection, and priced well below
the 'high water' mark of the previous examples sold at
auction; 8" long:

 WOOD PLANES
**** ******

WP1 Moving fillister with fully boxed shoulder, screwed stop,
and dovetailed nicker; a barely used worker for cutting
rabbets in any grain direction, the adjustable fence and
stop make it an easy chore to cut consistently; by John
Bell of Philadelphia, this kind of plane is the best
solution for cutting rabbets; owner marks, minor dings
on wedge finial, they rarely come any nicer; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t4.jpg $155.00
WP2 Extra clean 5/8" astragal by Reed/Utica; an easy to use
profile that finds good use at a cornice or along an edge,
this one is barely used, free of modification; with owner
mark, a fine worker, the profile is a perfect semicircle
flanked by two fillets (flats); bottom left:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t4.jpg
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t4a.jpg $70.00
WP3 1/8" Preston bead; a very clean worker by the famous Birm-
ingham firm, it's stamped with the "EP" logo; the narrowest
of the standard bead set, it's perfect for subtle detail
and accent on cabinetwork; owner mark, single boxing, there
is a bit of wear to that at the toe, the plane is 100%
usable; bottom right:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t4.jpg $75.00
WP4 Chamfer plane by Cox; the popular box construction where a
sliding sole, or box, sets the width of the chamfer, it's
secured to the stock with a screw that travels in a slot
of a brass plate; in normal used condition, no damage, it's
probably sharp enough to use as is on pine; a solid worker;
top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t13.jpg $90.00
WP5 L.DeForest/Birmingham, Connecticut toted screw arm plough;
with most original finish on the beech stock, the fence is
solid boxwood as are the arms, nuts, and washers; a much
cleaner than usual example, with expected knocks/dings in
the arms and washers, the wedge finial shows the common
banging when backing it out with a mallet; Lindon DeForest
made some of the nicest plough planes in the US, he, and
some contempory planemakers, got caught up in a 'war' of
who could make the best plough, solid ivory and solid gold
ploughs were advertised as the pinnacle of plough design in
the US, though none have ever surfaced yet:

firm, this solid worker has been refinished; 2" wide cutter

usual; a worker, with minor heel banging and check; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t34.jpg $65.00
WP9 8" smoothing plane with 2" double iron by J.Kellogg; re-
finished, free of damage about the wedge, all it needs is
a sharpening; bottom:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t34.jpg $75.00
WP10 Adjustable sash plane with boxwood screw arms and nuts; a
lot of plane for cutting the rabbet and molding on sash
members, the plane's working width can be set by turning
the nuts and inserting shims between the two halves; nicely
cleaned, the common square ovolo profile is fully boxed;
owner mark, a solid and nice plane; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t34a.jpg $120.00
WP11 18th century Yankee plough; one with a maker's stamp that
was obliterated, you may be able to figure it out with
better magnification and time, it has the classic south-
eastern Massachusetts characteristics; cleaned, overall
fine shape, it was never fit with a depth stop; wedge has
a Chelor appearance, with slight relieving, it's in great
shape given its ca.1750 creation; no iron; what could have
been were it not for some idiot worried about another name
on his plane; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t35.jpg $185.00
WP12 1 1/2" skewed rabbet with double nickers for scoring the
grain; made by Copeland&Co, it saw limited use; cleaned,
dry surface will benefit from a bit of oil/wax, some stable
checks won't hinder its use; uncommon to find double nicker
rabbets; bottom:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t40.jpg $45.00
WP13 Five odd number pairs of hollows and rounds by Gabriel; in
sound worker shape, much nicer than 18th century English
planes normally are, free of modification, they will
compliment your even number set; #7, #11, #13, #15, and
#17, the #7 pair was found separately from the others, it
matches the rest well:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t44.jpg $285.00
WP14 1" (depth of cut) quirk ogee by G.Davis; a much cleaner
than usual example with great proportions, it shows banging
at the heel from backing the wedge/iron; rear boxing is
loose and should be glued; owner mark, a fine quality
worker; bottom left:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t54.jpg
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t54a.jpg $95.00 WP15 3/8" square ovolo by H.Lunham; refinished, owner mark, a

they come, dry surface, fine workers; bottom:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t58.jpg $85.00
WP17 Fenced spill plane with unusual round wedge; made of walnut,
in fine shape, it's used to make tight curls for transferring
fire; easy to use, most spill planes are owner made with
unique characteristics, this one is particularly nice; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t60.jpg $85.00
WP18 Exotic wood screw arm toted plough plane by Lamb&Brownell
of New Bedford, MA; by a firm that made some of the nicest
plough planes in the world, they and some other local
makers had access to all sorts of exotic woods brought back
to the whaling port of New Bedford, the woods were part of
the flourishing worldwide trade happening there for decades
during the 19th century; with boxwood arms, nuts, washers,
and dovetailed wear strip in the fence, the rest of the
plane looks to be a figured Cuban mahogany; in fine shape,
never restored or otherwise messed with, owner mark, some
minor dings/nick/bang marks from storage, it represents
well the craftsmanship centered around New Bedford, few
other American makers rivaled this partnership:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t68.jpg https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t68a.jpg $485.00
WP19 Different cill drip edge plane made of ebony, boxwood, and
figured mahogany; a great 5 1/2 long plane with a skewed
iron, the stock has a tiger stripe pattern, the sole is
boxwood, the adjustable fence is ebony; owner made, a
splinter at the toe of the sole looks far worse in the
image than it actually is, it in no way detracts from the
plane; this is a very nice plane; top left:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t72.jpg
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t72a.jpg $165.00
WP20 Clean pair of #10 hollow and round by Auburn Tool Co.; all
they need is a honing; free of owner marks, they are barely
used; bottom two:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t82.jpg $80.00
WP21 Matching set of three yellow birch astragals by Isaac Field
of Providence, RI; a rather underappreciated maker, whose
earliest work is identical to Jo.Fuller's (planes of this
period are very uncommon), these are his next period with
flat chamfers at toe and heel and broad rounded ones along
the lengths; very well made, never cleaned, free of damage,
no owner marks, two had a strip of wood tacked to the fence
so they could be used as beads, the finish planes are still
present and can easily be pulled; with original surfaces
that have grown dark over the 200+ years these have been
around, it's finish such as this that collectors kill for
on furniture; that these remained together all these years
is a miracle, the widths are 7/8", 1 1/4", and 1 1/2";
with layout lines, they are stamped with the sizes on the
heels in the manner of Fuller:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t83.jpg
   https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t83a.jpg $365.00
WP22 J.Killam slide arm plough plane; a notable Connecticut
maker who bridged the era between the early and later
makers, his work sometimes shows a style from the early
planemakers, this one is no exception as it has square
arms that have a slight radius along the top edge, wooden
thumb screws secure the fence and wooden depth stop; the
arms are riveted to the fence, another early treatment,
they also have the unmolded shape found on earlier planes;
made of beech, it's in find as found condition, with no
damage, just wear from honest work, a 'stop' was applied
to the top of the fence, between the arms, so that it's
owner could always get a consistent set when he used the
plane for other grooving; a nice example, with no owner
marks; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t84.jpg $195.00
WP23 Unique toted plough plane with brass side plate for quick
adjust and locking the arms simultaneously so that the
fence remains parallel to the skate (an age old problem
with plough planes, lots of ideas/designs were applied to
solve this time consuming 'problem'); a large plane, with
a 12" body, the wood looks to be fruitwood; very well made,
loads of mass, cleaned, the square arms show normal check-
ing where they join the portion that mates with the fence;
square arms, this may have been some long forgotten crafts-
man's idea to patent, it never got any farther than this
plane; a great plane to compliment a collection of tools
that never got off the ground and those that did:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t85.jpg https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t85a.jpg $685.00
WP24 Razee 22" jointer by Thos.Appleton/Boston; 2 1/4" double
iron, as found, showing normal signs of use, it has plenty
more left in it; closed tote, normal width mouth, the
razee feature allows greater comfort when taking long
strokes, planing over your head, or at non-standard
directions where the forearm might otherwise be hindered
by the plane's stock; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t99.jpg $110.00
WP25 Very uncommon Jo.Fuller 7/16" bead; first I've seen of an
18th century plane being sized to this fraction of an inch,
it's stamped "7/16" on the heel; old style bead with the
quirk detail, in sound shape, refinished, never altered;
with early owner initials; top left:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t107.jpg $185.00
WP26 Yellow birch 3/16" dado by John Dustin, a late 18th and
early 19th century maker from Francistown, NH, just 25
miles from me and found locally; free of modification,
very dry surface will benefit from a bit of oil, his output
was low, it's the first one I've found in the wild here;
iron is missing, I'll include one that fits the mortice
and wedge well, the width and length will have to be
ground to match the sole; top right:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t107.jpg $135.00
WP27 Odd scraping plane configured like a common molding plane;
fit with a plane iron that's ground like any bench or
molding plane iron, it's pitched at roughly 110 degrees so
that it scrapes rather than cuts; 9" long body looks to be
maple, with some figure, the iron is 1" wide; very well
made, rabbet mouth, odd planes like this were use by rule-
makers, I can't say if this one was; bottom:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t107.jpg $110.00
WP28 Panel raiser with skewed iron and adjustable fence and
stop; made by Lourie, it's the English/Scottish style
configured similar to a smoothing plane; capable of cutting
a panel 1 1/2" to 1 3/4", the screws for the fence can be
moved anywhere along the sole to work narrower panels, this
requires drilling holes (which commonly happened on such
planes; in fine shape, never abused, flat chamfers, a much
nicer than usual example; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t108.jpg https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t108a.jpg $175.00
WP29 Pair of owner made rule joint planes for drop leaf tables;
longer planes of 11", they saw little use, the wedges are
replacements from older planes, they need a bit of tweaking
to make them fit better; workers at a price less than what
manufactured ones fetch; bottom two:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t108.jpg https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t108b.jpg $175.00
WP30 Bewley/Leeds 1" (depth of cut) cove, ogee, and bead; good
proportions, free of modification, no owner mark, small
heel chip, normal tight check, which often happens to
larger/wider planes:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t120.jpg $115.00
WP31 T.Aikman (Philly maker) skewed square ovolo; size for 1/4"
thick stock, it can work any thickness greater; in fine
shape, odd that it's skewed, and a very uncommon maker
that saw very little use and has original surface:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t121.jpg $165.00
WP32 3/4" (depth of cut) bolection by H.Brown; a versatile
profile of a torus bead and a cove, this one is perfect for
the stock thickness of today; barely used, never altered,
old check in boxing toward the heel, no owner mark, the
body has a nice grain figure to it:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t122.jpg $110.00
WP33 Odd C.Fuller/Causeway St./Boston bevel and bead; the unique
profiles by the Boston makers seem endless, I can't recall
seeing this one before, it cuts a sloping bevel that joins
the truncated 1/2" diameter bead; in fine shape, barely
used, with owner mark:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t123.jpg $110.00
WP34 1/2" (depth of cut) quirk ogee by Kennedy&White/N.York;
nice proportions, barely used, owner mark, with lots of
uses:
https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t124.jpg $95.00
WP35 Toted 14" double nicker skewed rabbet by Belcher Bros.; in
as found condition, free of modification, it's perfect for
cutting larger rabbets in any grain direction, pushed with
left or right hand; owner mark, a worker; top left:
  https://supertool.com/forsale/sep/t130.jpg $85.00

care and use pamphlet; as clean a set as I've had in some

out by simply opening the box to see what it is; left: a
